Congratulations: Congratulations to Mr. Paddy and Mrs. Sarah McGee, Arduns, Gaoth Dobhair who celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary at the weekend. They were married in the former St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on January 5th, 1959.
Margaret Gallagher: The death of Margaret Gallagher, Chapel Road, Brinaleck, which occurred at the residence of her niece, Mrs. Maireed Coll, Machaire Rabhartaigh, on December 21st caused deep regret in the locality where she was well known. Aged 74 years, she was affectionately and better known locally as Maggie Thomis. Maggie spent many years working in Scotland, and she spent thirty five years as a bus conductress in the Glasgow region. She returned home to Chapel Road twelve years ago and she resided in the family home with her mother, Grace Gallagher. Grace passed away ten months ago aged 98 years. Maggie was a kind and friendly individual and she will be sadly missed. She was waked at her home in Brinaleck, the very large and representative attendance at the wake and funeral clearly indicated the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Her funeral took place to Cnoc Fola cemetery on Christmas Eve following concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. Colmcille Church. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Donnchadh Baoill, C.C., Cnoc Fola and concelebrants were, Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and Fr. Sen Gallchir, P.P., Gortahork. The lessons were read by Maired Coll, (niece) and Pdraig McFadden, (grand nephew). The prayers of the faithful were read by: Gary, Shaun, Maria and Mark McFadden along with Marina Coll. The offertory gifts were brought to the altar by Grace Ann McFadden, (niece), Mire, Nra, Irene and Doreen McFadden, (nieces in law). The soloists were, Majella and Lisa McFadden. Following the mass she was laid to rest in Cnoc Fola cemetery. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Mary McFadden, (Brinaleck Cross); nephews; nieces; family circle; relatives and friends, to all of whom deep sympathy is extended.
Bingo Cancelled: Due to artic weather conditions, the bingo in Ionad Naomh Pdraig, Dore on Saturday night and the Sunday night bingo in Ionad Pobail Chnoc Fola were cancelled.

Glenea United Draw: The lucky winner of the main prize, a Christmas Hamer in the Glenea United FC annual Christmas draw was Maureen McGee, Glasserchoo. Other winners were, James Mulhern, Glasserchoo, Shannon O'Brien, Lower Kildrum, Gortahork, and Patrick Doohan, Dunmore, Falcarragh. The organisers wish to thank everyone who supported the draw also all those who sold the tickets.
Christmas Whist Drive: There was a very big attendance at the Christmas Whist Drive which was held in Scoil Mhuire, Derrybeg on Monday 21st December. There were prize galore won on the night and the lucky winner of the top score, the prize was a big hamper, was Georgina Nic Giolla Bhrde, Meenaniller. She had a score of 177 points. Other winners on the night were: First Lady, Rose McGee, Falcarragh, (174 points, second lady, Maureen Porter, Gortahork, (166 points), third lady, Sle Geaney, Falcarragh, (165 points), fourth lady, Madge Gillespie, Annagry, (164 points), fifth lady,(joint winners), Noreen Houston, Falcarragh, (162 points), and Mary Mulligan, Magheraclogher, also on 162 points. First gent, Brian Mulhern, Gortahork, (170 points), second gent, Brd Gallagher, Meenaniller, (170 points), third gent, Noel Hamer, Meenaniller, (166 points), fourth gent, Eugene Hamer, Meenaniller, (164 points), fifth gent, (joint winners), Michael Harkin, Gortahork, and Daniel Curran, Falcarragh, (both on 163 points). Frances Hamer, Meenaniller, with 87 points had the highest score in the first half, while Mire Rua Gallagher, Magheralosk with 87 points had the highest score in the second half. The lowest score prize, (135 points) was won by Fred Gallagher, Gortahork, and the Longest Sitting Prize was shared between, Charlie Gallagher, Gortahork, and na O'Donnell, Falcarragh, (8 times). The whist drive committee wish to thank everyone who kindly donated prizes for the Christmas Whist Drive. Also a big thank you to everyone who turned out on the night and everyone who helped in any way. The whist drive will resume again in Scoil Mhuire, derrybeg, after the Christmas break on Monday January 11th.
Joe McGarvey: Widespread regret was felt by the death of Joe McGarvey, formerly of Meenaniller, Derrybeg, which occurred in Salford, Manchester, on December 16th. Joe who was aged sixty years, was a son of the late Owenie Hiuda ig McGarvey and his wife, Mary Mhic Beag (ne McGee), Meenaniller. Born here in Gaoth Dobhair, the family went to live in Scotland when Joe was a baby. He was a mechanical engineer and down through the years he worked on major developments in the Manchester area. The deceased was known as a very friendly individual, and he was well liked and well known. This was reflected with the very large turn out of his current and former work colleagues at his funeral which took place in Manchester on December 30th. Joe paid frequent visits to his home in Gaoth Dobhair. He was pre-deceased by his parents and by his brothers, John (who died at the tender age of six months); Hughie, Antin, Owenie and Pdraig. He is survived by his wife, Irene McGarvey; son, Daniel; three grand children; two brothers, Michael, (Ranafast) and Willie (Meenaniller); three sisters, Mrs. Frances Hamer, (Meenaniller), Mrs. Sadie Friel, (Meenaniller) and Mrs. Mary May, (Essex); in laws; nephews; nieces, relatives and friends to all of whom deep sympathy is extended. His month's mind mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on Tuesday, January 19th at 7.00pm.

Art Classes: The Art Classes will resume again on Monday 11th January from 7pm to 10pm in Pobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair. These classes include, oil, water colour and acrylic are partly funded by the VEC. They cost 40 euro and further information available from Marian at 074 9531455.
Winners of Draw: A highly successful draw which was organised by Club ige Ghaoth Dobhair and which was kindly coordinated by Mire (Owen Ellen) Boyle, Cotteen, Derrybeg, was held in Teach Mhic, Derrybeg recently. A lovely free buffet was served on the night, and the proceeds of the draw (1,540 euro) was presented to Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., which will go to the Gaoth Dobhair Day Care Centre in Derrybeg. The winner of the large hamper was Mrs. Brd Harkin, Stranacorkra, Derrybeg. A medium hamper was won by Lisa from Creeslough, while the other medium hamper was won by, Ned O'Donnell, Magheraclogher. Manus Coyle, Dore won a salad slicer, Anne Boyle, Crolly, won a bottle of whiskey, and Margaret Doherty, Magheralosk, also won a bottle of whiskey. The Club ige and Mire Boyle, would like to thank everyone who bought tickets also all those who donated prizes for the draw. They are also thankful to all the business establishments in the parish who kindly sold tickets for them.
Ann McBride: Widespread regret was occasioned by the sudden death of Ann McBride, Knockastolar, Bunbeg, which occurred recently. Anne was waked at her home in Knockastolar, and there was a steady stream of mourners to her home throughout the wake. Her funeral was also large and representative. Her funeral mass was celebrated in St. Mary's Church, Derrybeg, on New Year's Eve. The main celebrant of the mass was Fr. Michael Sweeney, P.P., Gaoth Dobhair and con celebrants were, An Dr. Oirmh. Pdraig Baoighill, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair and Fr. Brian Fearraigh, Seiplineach Phobal Scoil Chloich Cheann Fhaola. The soloist was Eileen Sweeney and she was accompanied on the organ by Leo Brennan. At the end of the mass Eileen played ' Thos i Lr an Ghleanna' on the tin whistle. Her funeral took place to Magheragallon cemetery following the Requiem Mass. She is survived by her husband, Sen; three sons; three daughters; relatives and friends, to all of whom sincere sympathy is extended.
