25-year-old Shane McMonagle from Ballinally, Moville

Hundreds of mourners packed the church of St Pius X in Moville yesterday to bid farewell to popular local man Shane McMonagle, who was killed in a a single vehicle accident at Carnagarve during the early hours of Thursday morning.

A well known DJ and marine engineer, the 25 year old’s untimely death was greeted with shock and disbelief by the local community, includuing hundreds of the area’s young people who turned out for the funeral yesterday afternoon.

Just two hours after local people gathered for a wedding there were scenes of grief and sadness in the same church at 2.30pm as mourners - led by members of the McMonagle family - said their final goodbyes to the much loved local man.

The Moville man was laid to rest after the funeral mass in Ballybrack Cemetery Last night, hundreds of tributes continued to be placed on Shane’s Facebook page. One comment said:“Every memory I have of Shane is a good one. Always in good form and always a good word to say about others. A true gent (sic) and always up for a laugh.”
