Fracking moratorium for Fermanagh
Erne West Councillor Barry Doherty has spoken of his desire to see Fermanagh District Council push on from its current position of calling for a moratorium on Fracking to seeking a outright ban on the controversial practice.
“I have seen nothing from Tamboran or for that matter any other company involved in this process that makes me think its suitable for Fermanagh or anywhere on this island.
“As a council we have had limited contact with Tamboran and have adopted a position that if Tamboran need to talk to the council they will talk to us all, I believe this is the best approach and gives all councillors the opportunity to ask questions directly of Tamboran.
“The latest correspondence we have received states that Tamboran have no intention of drilling or extracting to at least late 2014, there are many things the company needs to do before this can happen and its vital that we as responsible representatives use this time to lobby hard for an outright ban on this process,” he said.
