First drop in unemployment figures in four months

There has been a slight decrease in the number of people on the live register in Donegal, the first drop in four months.

Only the offices in Dunfanaghy and Donegal Town are showing an increase.

The total on the live register in the county is now 22,710, down 118 on last month but up 1,693 on August last year.

The fall in the total is the first seen in the county since April when there were 20,996 people signing on.

Most of the social welfare offices in the county have recorded just a marginal fall. Buncrana saw the biggest fall with the figure down by 79 to 5,178. Letterkenny saw a fall of 27 to 6,348, the figure in Dungloe and Killybegs dropped by 27 to 2,423 and 1,322 respectively.

Ballybofey’s figure is now down eight to 2,812 and in Ballyshannon, the figure fell by just two to 1,561.

In Dunfanaghy the figure increased by 27 to 1,666 and Donegal Town also saw a jump of 20 to 1,400.
