- ‘They can be sent to Spike Island for all I care’ - Dolan
Under fire Fianna Fáil county councillor Sean McEniff, whose comments about members of the Travelling Community have been branded as racist, has been backed up by a Fine Gael Town Councillor in Ballyshannon.

Cllr Eugene Dolan, former Mayor of Ballyshannon, exclusively confirmed to the Donegal Democrat, that he supports Cllr McEniff’s comments. He believes there are many others who largely agree with his comments.

“As far as I’m concerned they can be sent to Spike Island for all I care”, he said.

Meanwhile, the veteran Fianna Fáil Cllr McEniff says he stands over his comments of last week. Reacting to the news that a house has been bought for 230,000 euro for members of the Travelling Community at Parkhill, Ballyshannon, Cllr McEniff stated that he thinks members of the Travelling Community should be housed “in isolation” from the rest of the community.

Travellers representative groups, locally and nationally, are outraged at Cllr McEniff’s comments.
