Eight homes targetted by burglars in Raphoe area

At least eight homes were targetted in a spate of burglaries in the Raphoe area on Monday night.

Gardai are appealing for information following the burglaries which in some cases, were carried out while the houses were occupied.

It’s emerged that a number of ‘distraction burlgaries’ were carried out where householders were engaged by someone calling to the front door and an accomplice gained entry to the house by using a back door or window.

The burlgars pretented to be from Donegal Councy Council and wore high visibility vests and carried clip-boards. They told householders they were calling about the household tax and septic tanks.

Gardai have declined to say how much was taken during Monday night’s raids but cash, valuables and in one case, a lap-top were stolen.

They are appealing for information and say a dark blue coloured Mazda 6 with yellow coloured English registration plates may have been used by the thieves.
