Dungloe man's murder not being reviewed by SCRT

A top detective who runs the nation’s cold case unit is not investigating the murder of Shaun Duffy it has emerged. Detective Chief Superintendent Christy Mangan who heads up the tough Serious Crime Review Team (SCRT) says that he is determined to crack the country’s many cold cases dating back the last twenty years.

The death of Shaun Duffy occurred five years ago and garda are still in search of the Meenacross man’s killer.

Over one thousand people have been interviewed since his death. Around eight hundred statements have been taken as part of what was most intensive murder investigation the county had ever seen. During the earlier stages of the investigation around 50 garda were involved in the investigation.

Mr Duffy’s body was found in the front living room of his home at Meenacross, three miles from Dungloe on January 29, 2005. The brutal murder of Dungloe man, Shaun Duffy sent shockwaves through the nation.

Detective Chief Superintendent Christy Mangan is at present focusing his attention on the high profile cases of Meg Walsh, Raonaid Murray and Sophie Toscan du Plantier. All were beaten or stabbed to death and despite massive garda investigations their killers are still at large.

Sergeant Tony Connaghton from the Garda press Office said that the Serious Crime Review Team are not examining this case [Shaun Duffy] at present.
