A young family in Derrybeg had two reasons to rejoice last weekend.

While Sorcha Diver celebrated her birthday on Saturday night, her husband Shaun pocketed a whopping €63,400 in RTÉ’s Winning Streak programme.

Shaun, a caretaker at Pobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhai who is also very active in GLG Gaoth Dobhair, picked up a hefty €41,400 in the early rounds. Next, he nabbed €2,000 more when he got three wheels in the last round to qualify for the Spin the Wheel. Then he landed another €22,000, ensuring there’d be some serious celebrating in Gaoth Dobhair.

The Divers have two young daughters, Eva who is nearly four and Neasa who is one and a half years old.

Shaun started building a new home for the family last year and he plans to use his winnings to complete the building.

He says he’d also love a holiday for the family and a car.

Shaun’s the twelfth Donegal person to be on Winning Streak in the last year.

June Hughes from Castlefin will be hoping to be as lucky, when she is set to appear on Winning Streak.
