Donegal players are an inspiration - Mayor Larkin

The Mayor of Letterkenny, Cllr. Dessie Larkin has described the members of Donegal’s All Ireland winning team as an inspiration to the young people of the county.
Last night, Letterkenny Town Council afforded the Donegal GAA team a Civic Reception in honour of last year’s success at Ulster and All Ireland level.
And leading the tributes to the players, team management and backroom staff, Mayor Larkin said they were a credit to their clubs, their parishes and their towns.
“It’s important for young people to have someone like yourselves to look up to for inspiration,” he added. “What you achieved last year was incredible and the impact you had on the county and especially on young people was unbelievable.”
Five members of the senior panel - Rory Kavanagh, Kevin Rafferty, Frank McGlynn, Gary McFadden and Neil Gallagher were present at Wednesday night’s event in the Public Services Centre in Letterkenny. They were joined by a number of members of the Donetgal Co. Board, among them, chairman, Sean Dunnion, who thanked the council for recognising the achievements of everyone involved in last year’s success.
“2012 was a tremendous year and it has already been said time and again, how proud we are of the team. The effort, dedication and sacrifices that were made was incredible and the players deserve the success they had,” he said.
Mr. Dunnion said he had recently met the chairman of the Laois County Board at an event in Croke Park. “We got chatting and he was just so interested in our success story. He asked me how did it happen and where did this all come from. Everyone around the country has been fascinated by the success of this team - that’s the impact it has had.”
Other speakers on the night included the County Manager, Seamus Neely and Rory Kavanagh who said while the last few months had been hectic for everyone in the panel, the reception the players had received from clubs and supporters was brilliant.
Rory also spoke of the pride he and his St. Eunan’s clubmate, Kevin Rafferty felt when their home-town hosted the homecoming celebrations after the All Ireland success last September.
