Donegal man comes home after 180 years

Ardara this weekend will welcome home the remains of a Donegal man who was buried in an unmarked grave in Pennsylvania more than 180 years ago.
The remains of John Ruddy, age 18, one of the 57 Irish people buried at a Pennsylvania site called Duffy’s Cut, will be reinterred in a grave donated by Vincent Gallagher and his family. Mr. Ruddy is the only member of the group of 57 whose remains have been identified to date.
The reinterment will take place at 3pm, Saturday, March 2nd, at the graveyard of the Church of the Holy Family in Ardara.
“People like Mr. Ruddy made it easy for the rest of us to come here and have nice homes and jobs,” Vincent told the Democrat this week. “They suffered for it. They plowed these people under like they were a pile of garbage.”
