Donegal fans on the move as sun shines in Dublin

There were light falls of rain in Dublin yesterday evening, but this morning the capital is basked in glorious sunshine and there’s hardly a cloud to be seen in the sky, writes Michael Daly.
Weather reports for today at Croke park are good, it will be dry, circa 15 degrees and a light 7km wind - wind speeds yesterday in the city were circa 20km at times for example, so the conditions look like they will be perfect today for Donegal’s date with destiny (and Cork!).
Thousands of Donegal GAA fans arrived in Dublin yesterday and down at St. George’s Dock, Donegal people weren’t hard to spot in the middle of a host of nations at the Tall Ships Festival, with their Donegal Creameries tops and football shirts.
RTÉ 2FM’s Garry Moran commented on the numbers of Donegal people he could spot in the crowds as he broadcast live from the venue.
Yesterday the Donegal squad got away safely from Donegal town to an undisclosed hotel location and word is, all are ready for the game of their lives.
Gardaí in Donegal confirmed huge numbers of buses and cars on key county roads out of Donegal, north county routes through Monaghan reported as “lively but steady” while routes via Pettigo/Kesh/Ballyshannon and for some via Sligo are all reported to be “busy, but moving well”.
Here in Dublin the ‘Donegal hotels’ such as the Skylon and The Regency on the north side, the Camden Court and The Harcourt on the south side, were all buzzing last night and this morning the foyer area of the Skylon where the Democrat team is based, was like the calm before the storm with Donegal fans huddled around national newspapers checking out the big game coverage.
RTÉ Radio 1 will be broadcasting from the Croke Park Hotel prior to the match where Brian Carthy will be interviewing stars of past and present in a special pre-match build up; Ocean FM are broadcasting a pre-match show from the Skylon Hotel. Martin McHugh, Anthony Molloy, Altan and many more were among contributors to a fantastic live broadcast last night by Highland Radio from the Harcourt Hotel. Highland will broadcast their Sunday Sport live from Croke Park later today from 2pm. while BBC Radio Ulster, Ocean FM and Raidio na Gaeltachta with their teams will all bring Donegal specific coverage also from Croke Park.
Meanwhile Democrat and Donegal People’s Press reporters will be extra busy today as they prepare to bring out the first Monday edition of those papers, and readers should make sure now they get their hands tomorrow (Monday) morning on what promises to be a very special 88 page bumper first edition of Donegal’s favourite newspaper.
