Passengers aboard the Lough Swilly ferry were greeted by an incredible sight at the weekend as a pod of dolphins swam alongside the ferry on the crossing from Buncrana to Rathmullan.

Adults and kids were entertained by the playful pod as they swam right next to the ferry. This picture was taken by staff from The Red Door Country House in Fahan who were aboard the ferry on Sunday. “Three dolphins were swimming right next to us looking for a race to Rathmullan and we could see others further off in the distance,” said one of the staff.

According to the ferry’s skipper, this is the first sighting of dolphins on the crossing this year and they are expected to stay around for the summer.

There is no need for a long trip to Dingle – just hop on the Lough Swilly ferry at Buncrana or Rathmullan pier this summer for on-board entertainment you just can’t buy!
