Doherty business "holding up well" in downturn
Donegal developer, Patrick Doherty and his family, occupy top spot among the county's representatives in the 'Sunday Times' Rich List published at the weekend.
The Buncrana native has donated most of his Harcourt Developments project in Dublin to his children, Cara, Henry, John, Niall, Nicholas and Patrick Joseph, according to the listing. The family are estimated to be worth 223 million euro.
“With property in Ireland and a long-term lease on the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, the business is holding up well in the downturn,” the ‘Times’ reported.
Meanwhile, hotel and property magnate, Jim McGettigan, comes in at number 42 on the Irish list with a valuation of 218 million euro. Owner of the London based Bonnington Group, he boasts property interests worth more than 120 million euro through his company in Dublin.
The report states that despite scaling back his Dubai interests, the Kilmacrennan man still plans to open the Bonnington Tower hotel and 900 residences at Jumeirah Village.
Gweedore singer, Enya, is worth 93 million euro, according to the Rich List. The 47 year old - real name Eithne Ni Bhraonain, has sold 72 million albums - saw her latest release ‘And Winter Came’ topping two million last year.
Also in entertainment, Donegal born Moya Doherty, along with her husband, John McColgan, are estimated to be worth 74 million euro. They have 18 million euro of property also.
The show that earned international acclaim, Riverdance, helped them make their fortune.
