Events like last weekend’s major cycling event in the northwest of county gives the area great exposure both nationally and internationally according to a spokesperson for Letterkenny Chamber.

The three day Errigal Cycling club international tour event was a great success, with young competitors from all over the world taking to the roads around Churchill, Gartan and the outskirts of Letterkenny for three days of racing.

CEO of Letterkenny Chamber, Toni Forrester, said such events serve to bring people to the region give the area “great publicity”.

Toni said this type of event gives a lot positive exposer to the region and “we need more of them”.

“It brought in a good crowd, with some of them coming from far away. Anything that helps bring people into Letterkenny is great as it helps get our name out there,” she stated.

The first “1ER Errigal International Youth Tour 2012” was held over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The prestigious event and was the only Youth International Cycling event in Ireland in 2012. It was endorsed by both Cycling Ireland and Cycling Ulster.

Errigal Cycling Club said they were delighted to be hosting an event of this stature adn it featured riders from the UK, South Africa and all over Ireland.

The event itself was mainly based in the Churchill area of the county with the event HQ being Gartan Outdoor Education Centre.

Toni said there was also a very good turn-out of visitors for the recent Letterkenny Re-Union Fair Day that drew a large crowd.
