Cranford NS students do schoolwork in local centre while school work goes on
The 35 students at Cranford National School are settled back in temporary accommodation for the coming weeks until the refurbishment of their school is complete.
The students and teachers of Cranford returned to school on Monday, using two rooms off the main hall of the Cranford Coole Community Centre, about a mile from the national school.
"When you're moving buildings it takes a couple of days, but it's not too bad," said Principal John McLaughlin. He said the temporary transition went smoothly.
The two-classroom school building, built in 1965, is undergoing a near total refurbishment, including new windows and doors, new electrics, new plumbing and a new paint job. The refurbishment work began a few weeks ago.
"Basically everything is being taken out and replaced," Mr. McLaughlin said, adding that the school community was delighted with the refurbishment project. Cranford National School is staffed by two main class teachers as well as by visiting teachers.
Before classes were moved to the community centre, students from the national school had already been using the centre for physical education, the principal said.
