Council to press NRA on Bonagee Link road

Members of Letterkenny Town Council have launched a strong attack on the National Roads Authority over its failure to provide funding for the vital Bonagee Link road.

Claiming that the town had been neglected when it came to national priorities, Cllr Dessie Larkin told Monday night’s meeting: “We are not getting anywhere near what we need.”

The N.R.A. had, he said, “the cheek to criticise us” for traffic problems when the authority had conducted a survey on the wrong road.

Referring to funding provided to other areas in the county with lesser populations, he added; “Fair play to them but we did not get one red cent from them. Nobody at national level has been shouting for Letterkenny,” Cllr Larkin insisted.

Backing the proposal, Cllr Ciaran Brogan said a number of studies had highlighted the importance of the Bonagee Link road. “Yet the N.R.A. in its wisdom decided not to give it any money at all.”

He suggested the Council put an information package together and forward it on to the N.R.A. so they could put the Bonagee Link Road back on the agenda.
