Independent Letterkenny town Cllr. Paschal Blake is appealing to the town council to consider acquiring a site on the Glencar Road that is coming to auction in the coming weeks.

The .6-acre parcel, at the junction of the Glencar Road and College Farm Road, is going to auction at 12 noon, Saturday, Nov. 10th, with a reserve price of €25,000. Cllr. Blake said the council could use the site “to make this a safer junction”.

The site has been listed for sale by public auction by Sherry FitzGerald Rainey, and the auction will be held on site.

“I feel very strongly that now that this site has come on the market at such a low guide price, that with the current financial situation in the country that it’s a very fair guide,” Cllr. Blake said. “And I would feel that Letterkenny Town Council should put some plan in place in order to purchase it to realign the road.”

He said it was an opportunity for the council to take steps to address traffic backlogs in the area, particularly in the morning and evening when students are entering and leaving area schools.

“I think it’s an ideal opportunity now for some budgetary measures to be put in place for road planning in that particular area,” Cllr. Blake said.

The site in the past had been up for planning permission for a variety of uses, including apartments, though area residents believed that use would have put too much pressure on the neighbourhood.
