A young Donegal man has been killed in a road crash in Western Australia.

Tributes have been flowing for a 24-year-old Ardara man Tomás Maguire, who died yesterday morning in a car accident in Australia.

He died 214km south-west of Perth when the vehicle he was driving rolled over. It’s understood he was alone in the vehicle.

Ardara GAA club member, John McConnell, spoke of being stunned at the news of his friend’s death:

“I sit here tonight stunned and heartbroken at the tragic loss of our friend and team-mate Tomás Maguire. Having coached Tomás from the first time he landed down in Kentucky as an 8 year old until he left the Minor ranks, it’s hard to fathom that the wee buck with the cheeky grin and the heart of a lion is no longer with us. We are just heartbroken.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the dead man’s family.

It’s understood Mr Maguire, who travelled to Australia in February, was working on a farm and was on his way to pick up supplies when the accident happened.

A talented gaelic footballer, Tomás’s parents Eunan and Eileen are being comforted by family and friends on their tragic loss. This is the second tragedy for the Maguire family, Tomás’s cousin, Martina who was only 16, passed away in January.
