Christmas Day road tragedy in Donegal

A man in his mid 20s died last night following a single vehicle road traffic collision near Stranorlar.

The Christmas night fatal accident occurred at approximately 11p.m. at Treanamullin, Stranorlar.

According to the Garda Press Office, the male driver of the car who was in his mid 20s, was fatally injured when his vehicle left the road and came to a stop in a field. He was removed by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital.

Gardaí at Ballybofey are investigating the single vehicle accident.

The road where the collision occurred is currently closed, pending an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Diversions are in place from Stranorlar via The Cross and Killygordon when travelling from Stranorlar towards Lifford and from Killygordon via the Cross to Stranorlar/Ballybofey.

This is the 7th death on Donegal’s roads in 2012.
