Car sales on the up

Car sales in Donegal are on the increase having jumped 15 per cent on the same period last year.

The number of cars sold by 14.53 per cent increased by January compared to January last year.

Fifty more cars were sold in the county this January bringing the total sold to 394 for the month.The increase here is more than three times the national average.

Significantly the number of light commercial vans sold has more than doubled. Sales of light commercial vans increased by over 105 per cent compared to January last year.

There were 76 light commercial vans sold in Donegal in January compared to just 37 in January 2009. The increase is more than three-times the national average.

The number of heavy goods vehicles has dropped significantly in Donegal. Just two were sold in January compared to eight in January last year following their national trend of a 50 per cent drop in sales.
