Call centre making positive progress

An emergency call centre due to open in Ballyshannon in the next few weeks will create 50 high-skilled jobs. The new centre, which is headed up by telecommunications company BT Ireland, will be located at Portnason IT centre.

The Ballyshannon facility, which will accept calls from the public and forward them onto the appropriate control rooms, will be one of two centres that will process up to five million emergency calls every year. The jobs were first announced back in 2004.

Concerns have been consistently expressed over the delay in getting the centre. However, local Councillor Brendan Travers says the project is now coming to fruition and could inject some much-needed economic vibrance back into the town.
