Bundoran one of two new Fibre Network locations announced by eircom

eircom has announced its plans to increase its national fibre footprint from one to 1.2 million homes and businesses which includes two additional locations in county Donegal.

In Donegal, Bundoran and Carndonagh are included in the latest announcement of eircom’s fibre roll out plans.

Four locations in Donegal were announced in previous phases of the fibre plan and work for the latest phase is due to be completed by June 2015.

eircom’s current fibre footprint has passed over 230,000 premises and by December 2013 eircom plans to have passed 700,000 premises.

Herb Hribar, CEO eircom Group said, “This week we announced we are extending our fibre broadband reach beyond 1 million homes to reach a total of 1.2 million by June 2015. No other operator in Ireland is investing in such an extensive fibre network and our investment illustrates our commitment to connect our customers to Ireland’s largest telecommunications infrastructure.

“When connected 60% of homes and businesses will have access to high speed broadband. Six locations in Donegal are included in our fibre plan and these communities will we be seamlessly linked to big urban centres which will benefit both business and residential customers.

We are also investing in 4G mobile services which will provide superior data and performance capabilities. Together our fibre and 4G services will create a compelling network proposition that allows us to offer real value to our customers. eircom already has Ireland’s largest WiFi network which offers customers the opportunity go online at over 1,800 WiFi hotspots nationwide. Our mission is to connect Irish people in more ways and in more places than any other provider”.
