Bravery medals for Bundoran teens

Two Bundoran teens who rescued three children after their canoe overturned are to be awarded medals from the Comhairle na Mire Gaile- the Deeds of Bravery Council.

Conor Doherty and Ryan Hamill, who were only 14 and 13 years old when they carried out the rescue on August 20th, 2007, will receive the Silver Medal and Certificate for Bravery at a national awards ceremony in Leinster House on September 22nd.

The lads were out skateboarding near Tullan Strand when they saw a canoe capsize. They swam out 300 yards to rescue the children, aged 13, 11, and 8, who were thrown into the water. Local man Colin McGuigan helped them bring the children safely back to shore.

Conor and Ryan received the Michael Heffernan Medal for Marine Gallantry in 2008 and were honoured by Bundoran Town Council for their courageous deed.
