Big Support for ‘Can’t Pay Won’t Pay’ campaign in Ballyshannon

More than 130 people came along to Dorrian’s Hotel, Ballyshannon on Monday night to support the ‘Can’t Pay Won’t Pay’ campaign against household charges.
Thomas Pringle TD, who spoke at the meeting, said the organisers were delighted with the turnout.
“There was a great attendance, the numbers really surpassed our expectations. More importantly, 60 people signed up to the campaign on the night.”
He was equally pleased at news that just 4 per cent of people in the country have registered so far to pay the new household charge.
“I think it’s a good reflection on the campaign’s reflectiveness that only 4 per cent have registered one month on. It’s also a fair indication of the amount of anger that is out there at the way ordinary people are being asked to foot the bill for a debt that they didn’t create.
“We hope that this trend of non-registration will continue right up until March 31st.
“We’ll certainly be stepping up our campaign between now and then.”
