Avril Sweeney, Manager of Donegal County Childcare is delighted with the success of Donegal Childcare Services. Avril commented: “This fund was so heavily oversubscribed and the process was so competitive that we were not overly hopeful about getting a significant amount of money into the county. These childcare services are now in a position to make significant improvements to their services and we are particularly delighted for those services that have been awarded funding for outdoor play spaces – this is an issue we have been promoting for some time now.”

This funding programme has been the first significant funding available to childcare services since the termination of the National Childcare Investment Programme capital strand in 2008.

Avril commented that the huge response to the programme where total applications exceeded €62m for a €6m fund and where over 2,000 applications had to be declined; clearly demonstrates an ongoing need for investment in the childcare infrastructure.
