400th Birthday for Letterkenny?

A question mark over the exact age of Letterkenny town was raised during last Monday's Town Council meeting.

Councillor Tadhg Culbert said he was informed recently that next year would mark the 400th anniversary of the foundation of the Cathedral town. He said if this was the case then it was "something special" and a good opportunity to attract visitors to the area.

He said if it could be verified they "should get going on ideas," but the meeting then heard this might not be the case.

Town Development Officer, Ciaran Martin, told the members that at present the 400 year date of the foundation of Letterkenny was "in dispute" among local historians.
