€240,000 for Donegal Town park

Funding of €240,000 has been announced today for a community recreational park and playground in Drimarone, Donegal town.

Phil Hogan, TD. Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government announced the grant today, under the Village Renewal and Development measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

The grant, administered by Donegal Local Development Company, will be used by Drimarone Development Association to create a community recreational park incorporating a children’s playground, multi-purpose recreational area and car park. The total cost of the project is €346,000.

Announcing the funding Minister Hogan said: “This project will be of immense benefit to Drimarone. I know it will improve the quality of life and will strengthen the social and economic fabric for all the areas inhabitants.”

The Minister added, “The project will now go back to the Board of Donegal Local Development Company for the final approval on the project. This is in line with the EU’s “bottom-up” approach to rural development.”
