€298,000 allocated to three Donegal projects

Three Donegal projects have been allocated €298,000 in total from a fund  aimed at stimulating economic development in rural towns and their hinterlands.

The projects in Dunree, Glenties and Ballyshannon are among 41 nationally to be included in a €5.3 million funding initiative.

Known as the REDZ (Rural Economic Development Zones) initiative, the monies were allocated by Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys, TD.

The largest Donegal allocation (€200,000) goes towards the completion of a Community Enterprise Centre in Glenties. €50,000 has been allocated to a Coffee Shop and Pier Facilities at Dunree Fort, Buncrana and €48,000 has been allocated to the upgrading of facilities at The Gables area in the centre of Ballyshannon. The monies will enhance the area for tourism.

Other projects in the north west receiving funding are:

€100,000.00: Tubbercurry Enterprise Centre, Co. Sligo: for support to Enterprise Centre and town development

€100,000.00: Ballinmore REDZ, Co. Leitrim: for assist towards the development of an Angling Centre

€200,000.00: Carrick on Shannon Co. Leitrim: to develop a Taste Leitrim Food Tourism & Enterprise Zone.

€200,000.00: Ox Mountain, Sligo: for Ox Mountains Mountain Biking Centre & Wild Nephin Wilderness.

€400,000.00: Ireland West Airport Knock: for new discovery centre for Sligo at Ireland West Airport and Regional branding.
