Naomh Columba into Intermediate semi-final

Philip Doherty, who got 1-1 for Naomh Columba

Naomh Columba qualified for the Intermediate Championship semi-final with a win over St. Naul's in Ardara.
NAOMH COLUMBA 2-7
ST. NAUL'S 0-3
The Mountcharles-based side were not helped by the midweek fixture as they were without their talisman, Stephen Griffin, who had a holiday booked in Tenerife. His departure had been put back to Monday so that he could play on Sunday last, but he was not available for this game.
They were also without Conor McDevitt, who could not get released from work in Limerick to make the trip home.
Naomh Columba were unchanged from the drawn game in Dunkineely on Sunday last.
Conditions were very poor in Pearse Park, Ardara with a wet sod and a howling cross-field wind.
There were just five scores in the opening half. Ryan Gillespie put Naomh Columba ahead early on from a free which was touched by a defender on it's way over the crossbar.
St. Naul's had a great goal chance minutes later but Cathal Lowther pulled his effort wide. Gavin Mulreany, the Donegal minor 'keeper, playing at full-forward, had St. Naul's in front by the 12th minute, one from a free and one from play.
Ryan Gillespie levelled from a free on 20 minutes and three minutes from the break, Philip Doherty with the Glen men's only point from play in the opening half left it Naomh Columba 0-3, St. Naul's 0-2 at the break.
The turning point in this game came 12 minutes into the second half when a Paddy Byrne free dropped short and Philip Doherty fired to the net in a ruck of players.
Prior to that Declan McGuire had a point from play and Ryan Gillespie added a free on 44 minutes to open the lead to 1-5 to 0-3.
There was no way back for St. Naul's and Naomh Columba went on to add points from Paddy Byrne (free) and Kevin McNern.
They finished well with a Ryan Gillespie free dropping short and Gavin McGinley fired home, almost a replica of the first goal.
