The community in Glencolmcille have had their fears allayed over the potential permanent closure of their local post office. as news emerged that the new office willopen on Monday October, 10.
Leas-Cheann Comhairle Pat the Cope Gallagher has welcomed the confirmation that Glencolumbkille Post Office is to reopen as there had been fears locally that it could have led to permanent closure
Gallagher said, “The area has been without a post office all over the summer months, which has been a great inconvenience to the locals and the many tourists visiting the Wild Atlantic Way.
“It is very welcome news and I congratulate the Byrne family who will operate the new Post Office which is ideally located.
“The rural Post Office is the lifeblood of the community and usually the focal point in most small rural areas. It is essential for rural Ireland that Post Offices remain part of rural communities and An Post must be congratulated for selecting such a fine location for the new Post Office and indeed their co-operation throughout the process.
“The officials worked tirelessly to source and fill the vacancy for the post office.
It is regrettable that it took as long to reopen the Post office, as the past two months have been a great inconvenience for the customers who had to travel the long distance to Carrick.
“It is important to remember that many depend on the local Post Office for many essentials - noy everybody has the internet.
The confirmation of the opening of the new Post Office and the guarantee of services into the future, is welcome news for the people of Glencolumbkille
