Almost 500 people turned out in Donegal town over the weekend to participate in a huge fundraising event to improve the hospice facilities at the Community Hospital in the town.

On Saturday a very successful handbag and jewellery sale took place on the Diamond with the Purple and Red ladies, Phyl O’Sullivan, Julie Voss, Roberta Gillen and Margaret Murphy displaying superb sales skills.

The main event took place on Sunday afternoon in great sunshine with 500 people of all ages clad in Purple and Red took part in a walk stretching from the Community Hospital around the Bank Wal and then back to the hospital where refreshments were served.

The Community Hospital has two hospice beds in private wards, each with an adjoining family sitting room and the money raised will greatly enhance these units.

The weekend events were held in memory of Eamon Murphy who was cared for at the hospice in the weeks before his death in September 2015 and his family were absolutely both humbled and overwhelmed at the support of the local community.
