A full military funeral is to be held at Mullingar's Cathedral of Christ the King on Wednesday for the tragically-drowned soldier, Corporal Gavin Carey.
Army authorities have confirmed that the army band will play at the Mass, and that there will be a military escort, while at the graveside at the town's Ballyglass Cemetery firing party, there will be a firing party in attendance.
The removal is to take place from Cpl Gavin's family home at Grand Parade, Mullingar, to Con Gilsenan's funeral home on Tuesday evening.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday.
The Taoiseach has expressed sympathy to Cpl Gavin's colleagues from the 2 Brigade Artillery Regiment, Athlone, on the death of Corporal Gavin Carey.
He stated: “Gavin served his country with pride and in the unheralded manner he and all his colleagues go about their business. At the time of his death he was in the process of completing a training course prior to his scheduled deployment overseas, to Lebanon. A further reminder of the duties soldiers undertake on all our behalves."
Corporal Carey's body was taken from the sea off Rogey Point in Bundoran on Sunday - he had gone missing after going swimming last Tuesday.
