Fairy doors appear in Ballyshannon

One of Ballyshannon Youthreach’s projects this year has won an Enterprise award.

The young people involved in the organisation undertake several projects each year, including working towards Gaisce awards. This particular initiative was decided upon, however, as a fun way to give something back to the local community.

It was decided that creating a fairy world was something that everyone could get involved in - making the fairy world and it's 'props' in woodwork classes, while improving communication and teamworking skills in the process.

The students got involved with Ballyshannon Regeneration Group and decided to create the fairy world in the Mall area in Ballyshannon. They worked away at clearing the area, then placed the doors and other bits and pieces, and invited the fairies to move in!

The project was awarded third place in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship category of the annual Educational and Training Board competition.

It is the hope of the everyone in Ballyshannon Youthreach that anyone who visits the fairy world will enjoy it and also respect the area.
