Gardaí studying CCTV footage after 17 kittens dumped in Killybegs

A cardboard box containing 17 tiny kittens was dumped outside a Killybegs butchers at 8am this morning.

The local postwoman found the box at 8am.

Gardaí are reviewing CCTV footage which showed a person leaving the box there at around 5am.

A spokesperson for Animals In Need (AIN) said the kittens, which are just 2-4 weeks old,are now in their care. Some have severe eye infections and most are not yet weaned.

“This is a heartless thing to do,” she added. “Taking the kittens from their mothers and leaving them at night in the cold was very dangerous. They are lucky to be alive.”

She also expressed concern that the 4-5 cats which gave birth to the kittens will have more litters.

Whoever dumped the kitens is asked to neuter the mothers or contact the charity on 087 7644420 for help if the cats are strays or feral.
