A third level sports coaching course is to get under way at The Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar later this year.
The course will last two years and will be run in conjunction with Donegal County Council, The Finn Valley Centre and Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
Donegal County Council says the Level 7 Sports Coaching Course is ready to be launched prior to the summer and teaching will begin in the autumn.
The development was raised at the April meeting of the Stranorlar Municipal District.
Fianna Fáil councillor Patrick McGowan welcomed the development which he said has been in planning for some time.
He said he had been involved in the background in the project which was a very exciting development for the Finn Valley Centre and would create opportunities in the county.
“This is the culmination of a lot of work in recent years,” he said. “This is now the seeds of it and it has to be welcomed. The Finn Valley Centre is a renowned facility internationally and it is very accessible and is a great base. I have great hopes and aspirations for this course going forward. The biggest success is in the way Donegal County Council, LYIT and the Finn Valley Centre have worked together for the benefit of the community. Everyone has shared knowledge and resources,” he said.
“This is at the very early stages but we are all very excited. This is a third level courses starting and this is a great way forward. The facilities are there at the centre and by running this course we are maximising the use and value for money.”
