Donegal relatives of a young mother in the U.S. who has died from muscular dystrophy are helping to raise money for her grieving family who have had to postpone her funeral due to the huge medical bills they face.

Angelica Maria Cruz (42) died earlier this month in New York after suffering from the illness which had left her bed-ridden.

Her son Jordan also suffers from the debilitating hereditary condition.

The mother of two was related to the Quinn family from Letterkenny and Raphoe. The family are now raising awareness of the plight of their relatives in the U.S. who are facing huge medical bills.

Angelica’s family have had to postpone her funeral as they face funeral costs of $10,000.

Her cousins in Ireland, Ellen and Erin Quinn, their father Virgil, and the wider Quinn family in Raphoe and Letterkenny, have been raising awareness of the tragic case by sharing a Facebook appeal for their relatives in the U.S.

Virgil Quinn said: “Angelica was a lovely person from a lovely family and she will be remembered with lots of love. For her family to be burdened by extreme medical and funeral costs on top of the grief is so unfair.”

The family in New York have set up a Paypal account for anyone that would like to contribute any donation. It is: Eva.cruz191@icloud.com
