Perry concedes his seat is gone in Sligo Leitrim

A first count is expected in Sligo Leitrim in the hour.

The quota is expected to be about 12,000 votes with the tally figures confirming Fianna Fáil’s Marc McSharry as the top performer on 8,763 votes.

Former minister of state, John Perry from Ballymote who had to fight a court battle against his own party to get on the ticket, looks certain now to lose his seat.

His first preference vote of 4,298 is less than half of the 8,663 votes he received when topping the poll in 2011.

He’s behind his constituency colleagues, Leitrim-based Gerry Reynolds (6,505) and the other outgoing Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin(6,083).

Tally figures always come with a health warning, but what can be diagnosed is that Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Sinn Féin will get one seat each and one of those parties will take the fourth seat as none of the myriad independent candidates have done enough to make it.

The 1 to 18 according to the tally figures is as follows:

Marc MacSharry FF 8,763

Gerry Reynolds FG 6,505

Tony McLoughlin FG 6,083

Martin Kenny SF 6,079
