A late surge by Aodh Ruadh was not enough to deprive Four Masters of victory in the Southern U-12 A final in Tirconaill Park on Friday evening.

Four Masters 3-9

Aodh Ruadh 3-6

The winners did their best work at the start of the second half as they hit two goals to open a seven point gap which was enough in the end.

The first half saw Aodh Ruadh on top everywhere only on the scoreboard and that was down to some brilliant goalkeeping by Oisin McCallig.

At half-time Four Masters led by 1-6 to 1-5, the Four Masters goal from Frank Cornyn at the start of the second quarter and they added three quick points to lead by 1-6 to 0-4.

But Aodh Ruadh hit back with an Oisin Rooney penalty and a wonderful ‘45’ by Callum Ayres.

Two minutes into the second half Four Masters captain Dermot Slevin fired home a second goal and Aidan Gillespie added another to open the gap.

Aodh Ruadh finished well with goals from Cian Rooney and Dara Dolan and they were almost in for an equalising goal only for McCallig to deny them. The number of saves made by McCallig were numerous, some of them breathtaking stops.

Apart from McCallig and the excellent Dermot Slevin, Liam McLaughlin, Ultan O’Grady and Mark Jordan had good games.

For Aodh Ruadh, who hit the posts on at least four occasions, Kyle Murray, Dara Dolan, Aaron Neilan, Calum Ayres and Cian Rooney were best.
