Robert Emmet’s 5-6

Letterkenny Gaels 3-9

Ten points down at half-time, 2-6 to 0-2, Robert Emmet’s were a transformed side in the second period as they completely overwhelmed the Gaels, who looked to have the title in the bag at half-time after dominating majority of the opening 30 minutes.

Conor Lee Brogan, Aaron McMenamin, Jack Meadows, Paul Farrell and Reece Gallagher scored the goals for the champions while Ross Marley, Mikey Sweeney and Kealan Murphy scored the Letterkenny Gaels goals.

Marley got the Gaels off to a dream start with a goal inside 20 seconds. The full-forward, who ended the game with a personal tally of 1-5, first timed to the Robert Emmet’s net when the ball broke from a long Mikey Sweeney delivery.

Sweeney waltzed through the Emmet’s defence five minutes later for the Gaels’ second goal before Corrie Lee Bogan shortly after fired over the champions first point.

But with Sweeney, Kieran Patton and Marley making their imprint on the game the Gaels fired over five unanswered points from Ciaran Kilfeather (2), Marley (2), Sweeney to stretch their lead out to ten points, 2-5 to 0-1, before Bogan posted Robert Emmet’s second point on the half hour mark.

Marley made it a ten point game in injury time with a close in free.

Bogan, who turned in a man of the match performance, and Marley traded early points in the second half before Eugene McManamin’s charges finally clicked into gear and hit 1-3 without reply with points from Aaron McMenamin, Bogan and Rory Dalton and a Bogan goal from a 13 metres free that he drove past a crowded Gaels’ goal line.

Dalton’s point reduced the margin to four points with just ten minutes on the second half clock. But the margin was back out to seven once again when Kealan Murphy struck for the third Gaels’ goal.

Murphy struck when all Jack Meehan could do was parry a stinging strike from Marley and the half-forward made no mistake from ten metres.

Amazingly, the Gaels only added two more points - Ciaran Kilfeather, on 45 minutes and Marley deep in injury time - while Robert Emmet’s went on a goal scoring fest with three goals from Jack Meadows, Paul Farrell and Reece Gallagher for a sensational win.
