It was all too easy for Ardara who got back to winning ways in a one-sided affair in Pairc Naomh Columba yesterday afternoon.

Glenswilly 0-5

Ardara 1-13

Both sides were missing several players aside from their county contingent, but the visitors still proved way too strong for their opponents.

The experienced Brendan Boyle, Stephen ‘Red’ McHugh and Kenneth Doherty stood out in a game that was over as a contest once Peter McHugh’s goal on 19 minutes put Ardara 1-7 to 0-2 in front.

Glenswilly will point to two good goal chances of their own in the first half. Dermot McGinley’s fisted effort came back off the post when he should really have scored while Caoimhin Marley shot wide from a good position.

But Ardara did enough in the first half to ease to victory. They were 0-5 to 0-1 in front at the end of the first quarter. Two long range points from Brendan Boyle were the stand-out scores before Gary McFadden kicked a wonderful point for Glenswilly.

Ardara, however, hit back with a clinical goal - Peter McHugh ghosting in on the right and his low shot beat Philip O’Donnell.

Going into the second half trailing 0-3 to 1-8, Glen’s priority was to try and eat into the Ardara lead. They started the new half well but just didn’t carry enough threat when coming forward. Points from Brendan McNelis and Tomás Boyle extended Ardara’s lead out to ten points and while Caolan Kelly scored his second point for Glenswilly, Ardara responded with two delightful scores from half back, Stephen McHugh.

The sides traded scores close to the end and Glenswilly’s day was to end on a sour note when Aidan McDevitt was shown a straight red card following an incident involving Stephen McHugh.
