Colaise Na Carraige are on the march again this week with their U-14 team facing St Joseph’s, Enniskillen, in the Ulster Championship.
The game is a quarter-final tie and it has been pencilled in for Gaelic Park, in Bundoran, on Friday morning next. Gareth Doherty’s charges are the first of two of Colaiste Na Carraige team that will fly the Donegal flag in Ulster, in 2014.
The seniors under the guidance of Noel Ward are also preparing for their last eight provincial joust with Down champions Castlewellan. That game has been provisionally fixed for Wednesday, February 5th, with the Tyrone training Centre in Garvaghy, being mentioned as a venue.
Colaiste Na Carraige defeated Carndonagh 6-7 to 1-5 in the Donegal final qualify for the Ulster championship. Full-forward Cillian O’Malley scored three of the goals, Gary Molloy and Dylan Kelly scored the other goals while midfielder Lanty Molloy knocked over five points.
The final was the school’s first U-14 championship success since they won in 2009; the team made up largely of the current school senior team.
“They are an unique team for us with the exception of Dylan O’Gara - who is in first year - at corner back; all the rest of the starting 15 are in second year and we have in fact one lad Brian O’Donnell in third year,” said manager Gareth Doherty.
“That makes all the difference at U-14.”
“We are looking forward to Ulster and playing oppositions from other counties. St Joseph’s are a small school like ourselves. We don’t know much about them, but we will treat them with respect and hopefully we are good enough to make it through to the the next round.”
Paddy Boyle, Noel Ward, Neilly Byrne, Damien Carr and Patrick McShane make up the manager’s backroom team, while Aaron Doherty and Brian Doherty are joint captains.
