Aodh Ruadh

The seniors concluded their 2013 season with a five point derby win over Naomh Bríd. The U-16s went down to a narrow 2-7 to 3-3 defeat against Naomh Conaill on Sunday afternoon in their Southern championship semi-final first leg clash.

The Ernesiders got off to a flying start racing into a 2-1 to 0-1 lead in the opening stages with Nathan Boyle fisting both goals to the net. However Naomh Conaill regrouped and managed to haul it back and went in leading by 2-4 to 2-3 at the break.

Glenties continued to have the better of it in the second half and Ballyshannon weren’t helped when their best player on the day, midfielder Eugene Drummond, had to leave the fray half way through with a suspected hip injury. Some stout defending from the Ernesiders combined with flakey shooting from the homesters meant the game was close run to the very end. Philip Patton was the only Ballyshannon man to score in the second half, hitting the net with a penalty. Aodh Ruadh will know they have room for improvement in the second leg and should be confident of taking this tie to a play-off when they host Naomh Conaill in Father Tierney Park this Sunday, 20th October.
