Former Glefin player and Letterkenny I T graduate Maggie Farrelly will make history tonight when she becomes the first woman to officiate at a men’s senior inter-county match in Croke Park.

Former Glefin player and Letterkenny I T graduate Maggie Farrelly will make history tonight when she becomes the first woman to officiate at a men’s senior inter-county match in Croke Park.

Farrelly, from Laragh, in Cavan won a Donegal Senior Championship with Glenfin in 2011 and played a pivotal role from centre half-foward in the victory over Four Masters.

She will act as the sideline official at tonight’s Allianz Football League Division I game between Kerry and Dublin at GAA Headquarters.

“It’s a great honour and something that you can only dream about, especially because the game is in Croke Park of all places. It’s such a special place for GAA people.”

Maggie is a Business in Sport Development graduate from LYIT has been refereeing for the past seven years both in her native Cavan and in Ulster Club League. She as also acted as a fourth official at games in the Dr McKenna Cup, in the last two seasons.
