St Naul’s made no mistake at the second attemp as they outplayed Downings to win the Intermediate Reserve Championship replay.

Eight points separated the sides at the finish and Glen Campbell’s men were worth every one of them as they had more or less domianated throughout.
The sides were level at 0-3 each as the first period came to a close with Alan McGroary (2) and Gary Ward, the St Naul’s scorers, while Martin McBride and Christopher Carr (2), hit the target for Downings.
Downings were ahead 0-4 to 0-3 at half-time when Eric Roberts, in injury time scored a peach of a point.
On the resumption Michael Quinn drove a 45 metre free between the posts, to tie up the game within seconds of the restart. And this was followed almost immediately with a brilliant strike from Gary Ward, to edge the champions in waiting, 0-5 to 0-4, back in front.
Andy Connors converted from 20 metres to restore parity but the game turned shortly afterwards when Patrick Burke saved brilliantly from Connors’ penalty. Shaun Kerrs picked up a second yellow card for the penalty offence
Quinn quickly added a second free and Jamie Coyle and Liam McGroarty landed points before Aidan Meehan slid the ball soccer style under John McGroddy, to open up a 1-9 to 0-5 lead. With the game over as a contest Quinn (2) and John McBrearty scored for the winners with Carr and Roberts responding for Downings who lost Barney Curran to a second yellow card late on.
