Ardara survived a late Dungloe rally to book a place in the semi-final of the Reserve championship in Davy Brennan Park, Glenties.
This was a much closer encounter than the opening game and in the end Ardara did enough in the opening half to get through; they led 1-7 to 0-4 at the break.
Dungloe did get back within a point with 11 minutes left, but they were unable to get on level terms.
Ardara were quick into their stride with Fergal Heena (free) and Gerard McCabe pointing within four minutes and while Brendan McGarvey had a free for Dungloe, Aaron Bennett and Heena added two more.
The big score of the opening half came when a Heena effort for a point came back off the upright and Paul Watters was alert to finish to the net on 22 minutes.
Aaron Bennett, after missing an opening free, was sharp for the winners, pointing four times while Brendan McGarvey was wide from a 20m free at the other end.
Thomas Brennan and Robert Weherly led the Dungloe comeback in the second half and McGarvey found his shooting boots with one marvellous free from the sideline. John Ward came on as a sub and fired just over on 51 minutes.
However, the game should have been over as a contest on 44 minutes when Fergal Heena, Ardara’s liveliest forward, worked an opening for Aaron Bennett. Bennett’s effort was well saved by Christopher McGlynn but he then fired the rebound over with the goal gaping.
The wind was a factor but Ardara did enough to hold back the Dungloe tide which was rising by the minute
Apart from Heena, Francis Diver, Patrick Whyte, Oisin O’Donnell and Gerard McCabe were best for Ardara.
