It might only be halfway through the All-County Football League Division One season but in terms of a possible relegation dog fight, Dungloe posted a big two points in their win at Ardara on Sunday.
The prowess of their full-forward line played a huge part on their win, with Adam Neely, Conor Greene and David McCarron scoring their complete haul of 1-10.
Both teams will be coming across one another in the RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta SFC later this year in the same pool.
Greene it was who scored the only goal of the game right before the interval when he dusted himself down having been fouled by Kenneth Doherty.
Declan Gallagher was sent the wrong way from the spot but that was the only foot out of place the Ardara goalkeeper put all day. That made the half-time score 1-6 to 0-2 for the wind-assisted side managed by Tony Boyle.
Gallagher was in excellent form, making four saves to keep his team in contention. Seven minutes into the second half, Doherty was adjudged to have committed a second foul in the square having been adjudged to have tripped Greene. However, Greene drove the penalty over the crossbar.
Ardara had to use the elements to their advantage to try and get back into the match but Dungloe were content to sit and play on the break.
John McConnell’s team posted the opening two scores of the second half, with CJ Molloy and Michael Maloney on the mark. However, Dungloe managed to maintain their advantage when Neely and Greene scored.
Neely kept the scoreboard ticking over before Tomás Boyle fired over three unanswered frees.
Gallagher in the Ardara goal did well to deny Darren Curran a goal on 55 minutes before he did ever better in a one on one with McCarron.
