Donegal finished in third place in the Buncrana Cup following their ten point victory over Armagh in the third and fourth place play-off on Saturday.
Donegal, who only fielded a handful of the players that lost the opening game 1-9 to 2-8 to Derry in Burt earlier in the day, totally dominated this game from start to finish.
They led 1-5 to 0-1 at half-time with Karl McGlynn netting the goal nine minutes into the game. Gary Molloy (2), Brian White, Danny Walsh and Shay Doherty kicked the points.
Donegal, with White and Brian O’Donnell on top at midfield, and the dashing duo of Danny Walsh and Peadar Brogan driving forward from the back and Molloy, Shay and Ben Doherty carving the openings, were in no way flattered by their eight points lead at the end of the first 25 minutes.
Ryan Mackin converted from a close range free for Armagh’s only point of the half.
And while manager Brian McGeehin reshaped the team in the course of the second period, Donegal continued to dominate.
Thanks to further points from Ben and Shay Doherty, Molloy and O’Donnell, the winners had extended their half-time lead out to 12 points by the time Odhran McGee kicked Armagh’s second point.
That was nine minutes into the new half. And with the game as a contest long over, Owen McGeehin, Walsh, and replacement Cian McEniff and Johnny Sweeney all split the target in the closing quarter hour. A goal from McGee and a Brogan McArdle point in the closing exchanges added a modicum of respectability for the Orchard boys who were totally outplayed over the 50 minutes.
