Naomh Columba

The ladies step on to the field on Saturday morning, when we host the annual Darren McGinley Memorial Tounament, starting at 11am sharp.

This 7 a side competition has proved to be very succesful and well organised day out in Pairc na nGael in the past and hopefully Darren can help us out with the weather!

On Saturday evening our senior and reserve teams host Urris in the league and hopefully they can both keep up the pressure at thetop of their divisions. As usual we are extremely thankful for all the great support all our teams receive and we hope to see as many of you out in force in the coming week. Ádh mhór do na foireann uilig, an seachtain seo!

NOEL GRIFFIN MEMORIAL

This was the 3rd year of the Noel Griffin memorial tournament and a large crowd came to watch former players and friends of Noels from Mac Cumhaills and Glenfin.

This could of been a simple kick about between friends but this was still Mac Cumhaills vs Glenfin, Mac Cumhaills started the best with some quick scores but the evergreen Frank Ward responded with some fine scoring that showed class shows no age, from here on in Glenfin took the lead and stayed there for most of the entire first half and when the two teams left the field the score was 1-06 to 1-05.

The second half started as briskly as the first scores from Paul Mc Glynn and Pj Scanlon were quickly followed by a well crafted goal by the wily Liam Ward but the resurgent efforts of Bernard “poggy” McGeehan pulled the score back seconds later with a goal of his own. Tit for tat scores between Pj Scanlon and Nathan and Mark Griffin kept the game on tenterhooks and when Frank Ward pushed forward again with two points it looked like the honours were Glenfin bound, but as referee Enda Mc Feeley was putting the whistle to his mouth Poggy Mc Geehan went on a storming run desimating the tired Glenfinn defence and smashing the ball into the back of the net bringing an exciting game of football to an end final score Mac Cumhaills 2-12 Glenfin 4-06. Man of the match went to Frank Ward

Great play between Jack Blake and Laurence Mc Mullan results in the latter slotting the ball over the bar leaving the score 03 01 after 22 minutes. Emmet Paterson scores a point late in injury time to leave St. Mary’s leading by 04 to 03 at half time.

Second half begins with an injury to Thomas Mc Hugh after 1 minutes play. He was replaced by Simon Mc Glynn. Fine play between the Blake brothers results in a point from the boot of Peter. Moville reply quickly leaving a scoreline of 05 04 after 6 minutes. Free kick for the home side leaves the game level. This is followed by 2 free kicks and 2 points from the boot of John A Kee. The visitors hearts are broken when Moville find the net bringing the score to 1 05 07. Moville

Senior ladies suffered defeat to st Eunans in the 13 a side championship on Wedensday last at home , was disappointing giving the great win they had against termon the Sunday before. Next up is Termon in the championship in Termon throw in at 11am.

Reserve men had 6 points to spare over neighbours Muff on Thursday 7th this was an away game for Moville and done well to grind a result best for Moville Ciaran Moore, Jamie Mc Cormick & Oran Henry.

Senior men:

Shaun Diver goal seals the deal for Moville as they progress to a semi final spot... In what was at times a very tense & exciting game the goal in the second half made the difference between the sides convoy got of best with 2 early scores, before a well taking point from Seamus Hegarty got Moville off the mark. Convoy added a 3rd before Joshua Lafferty scored next for Moville before a Ciaran Diver ( 45 ) to leave the sides level convoy added a 4th just before half time to leave a score line 0-4 convoy to 0-3 Moville.

Convoy started the second half best the brighter with both sides exchanging scores before the half time Moville Substitute Shaun Diver found the net in what was to be the most important score of the day with the game in the melting pot Moville showed character to see out Convoy with 2 points to spare.

Minors suffered defeat to mac cumhaills on Monday 4th of August a under strength Moville side done well against Mac Cumhaills with both sides putting up a big score Moville trailed by 0-4 with 10 mins to go, Co Minor Ciaran Diver scored 0-13 of the 0-18 points Moville scored on the night.

Well Done to the Donegal Senior team who saw off a very determined Armagh team by the narrowest of Margins to book themselves in a all Ireland semi final against Dublin. This is going to be a great day for Donegal as both the Minors & Seniors line out the same day when they take on the Dubs. It will be a momentous occasion for Our club players Tony Mc Cleneghan & Ciaran Diver who are on the Donegal Minor team.

Presentation

Members of St. Michael’s GAA Club gathered in the Clubhouse in Dunfanaghy recently to honour one of the founding members of the club John Durning. John originally from Dunfanaghy and Creeslough played for the club and was also an early administrator with the club serving as an Assistant Treasurer and Secretary in the early years before emigrating to Philadelphia in 1957. Although he has lived in the USA since and currently resides in Philadelphia he kept in touch with Donegal and remained a loyal supporter of the club and he also takes a great interest in the Donegal senior team and has greatly enjoyed the county’s success in the past few years. John is also very much involved in the GAA and in the wider Donegal community in Philadelphia. In a talk at the Presentation Function John gave an insight into how St. Michael’s were formed and recalled some of the early matches and successes of the club.

The MC For the evening was Liam McElhinney Chairman of St. Michael’s GAA Club and Mick McGinley Dunfanaghy and Mick McGinley (Hudai).
