St Eunan’s 1-5

Adrian Brennan’s team had a fruitful June Bank Holiday weekend with Monday’s win over St Eunan’s being added to the 2-11 to 2-8 victory over St Michael’s.

McNelis kicked seven out of Ardara’s first eight points against a woefully misfiring St Eunan’s, whose inefficiencies in front of goal crippled whatever chance they made of making a comeback.

The visitors almost registered a goal as early as the second minute after Paddy McGrath uncharacteristically got caught underneath a high ball and Michael Miller strode into space only to see Declan Gallagher make the save.

McNelis grabbed four first half points, while Gareth Concarr was also on the mark as Ardara, who had played against the breeze, but went in 0-5 to 0-3 in front.

Donnacha Gallagher had scored two points in that first half for St Eunan’s, while Conor Gibbons also registered a point.

The O’Donnell Park outfit had struck the upright twice and Conall Dunne smacked the Ardara crossbar late in the half.

But although some of those misses were unfortunate, 14 wides over the course of the hour wasn’t good enough, with there being an element of deflation about the continual shortcoming.

McNelis continued to excel and scored Ardara’s first three points of the second half with the only response from St Eunan’s being Donnacha Gallagher’s hanger.

Curran threw on Rory Kavanagh and John Haran in a bid to pull the match from the fire. The latter, though, only lasted 10 minutes before going off with a hand injury.

Darragh Mulgrew also scored for the away team but that was only a prelude to a fine scored on the turn from CJ Molloy and when Stephen McHugh punched over with four minutes left Ardara were 0-10 to 0-5 up.

Lee McMonagle scored a 58th spot-kick for St Eunan’s after McHugh had brought down Gibbons. However, whatever chance there was of a late salvo was scuppered by another couple of wides and Thomas Boyle scored the insurance point for Ardara.
