St Eunan’s maintained their place at the top of the All-County Football League Division One with a home win over Four Masters on Saturday.

St Eunan’s 2-9

Four Masters 1-9

The Letterkenny side were indebted to Conall Dunne, who had an excellent personal performance.

Dunne was the play-maker and chief for the side managed by Maxi Curran, scoring 1-4 and contributing much else aside.

St Eunan’s, despite their apparent comfort, did need goalkeeper John Paul Clarke to be on top form with a late penalty save from Raymie McGroary.

It was a useful win for St Eunan’s, particularly due to the fact they were forced to line out without Donnacha Gallagher - their top-scoring forward this season - due to suspension.

Rory Kavanagh was also out, with a slight abductor muscle strain, although Four Masters were without Dillon Ward, Karl Lacey, Barry Dunnion and Barry Monaghan.

Dunne had a hand in the first goal of the evening on 21 minutes, when he picked up a Michael Miller pass that broke his way before feeding John Haran, who in turn set up Lee McMonagle to score.

The hosts were in front by two points - 1-5 to 0-6 - at half-time.

St Eunan’s flew out of the traps in the second half and they posted a second goal on 32 minutes.

Peter Devine found Dunne and he turned his marker, before hammering past Paul Durcan in the Four Masters goal.

St Eunan’s looked like they would coast home in the final 10 minutes, but Four Masters scored a goal in the 56th minute.

Conor McMonagle dropped a shot short, but Eunan’s could not clear the danger and Darren Doherty hammered the ball to the net.

It made for a nervous conclusion and in the last minute, match referee Robbie O’Donnell awarded the Donegal Town team a penalty when Michéal Martin was adjudged to have fouled Shane Carr.

However, Clarke, who had a fine game, saved the spot kick from McGroary to keep his side on top of the Division One table.
